Tourism
in Ciociaria, Agro Pontino and other areas near
Rome |
|
|
The
city of Rome attracts millions of tourists and
traps them with its charm, but anyone who
decides to venture outside the city's gates
discovers that the countryside also has a lot to
offer and rivals with the city in beauty, art
and history with the addition of very fine wines
and foods.
The
Roman knows; and that's why whenever he can, he
gets in his car and drives out of the city to
enjoy some fresh air, lovely panoramas and, of
course, a good lunch!
There's a proverb that's says: "In Rome do as
the Romans do!" Well, dear tourist, you are
warmly invited to spend some time in the Roman
countryside and enjoy what the Romans enjoy. |

Besides the most famous places, like evocative
ruins of
Ostia, the enchanting
Villa D'Este
in Tivoli
and the "Castelli Romani",
there's a world to discover that hasn't been
contaminated
by mass tourism yet. In the peaceful medieval
towns, away from the from the cosmopolitan and
hectic big cities. in areas like the
Lepini Mountains,
Ciociaria
and
the
Agro
Pontino
one
discovers the real Italy.
Come and see these places:
Fumone with its
castle where a Pope was imprisoned and
its stories of ghosts; the Abbeys of
Trisulti,
Casamari and
Fossanova where the friars still live
their lives as they did in the middle ages
making liqueurs and medicine from herbs;
Palestrina with the ruins of
|
|
the
Roman Sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia;
The Christian Sanctuary of
Mentorella and the nearby towns of
San Gregorio,
San Vito and
Capranica;
Anagni, the so called City of Popes birthplace
of Pope
Boniface VIII the one who instituted the
Holy Year;
Fiuggi, with its water that
heals from kidney stones in which also
Michelangelo found relief, his words: "I
got rid of the only stone I couldn't love".
These are just a few places that deserve to be
seen and in addition, life becomes a lot less
expensive once one gets away from the big
cities. in these areas
a room in a 3 or 4
star hotel costs 60//90 Euros and a great meal
12/20 Euros! ...and luxury can be found at
Palazzo della Fonte, in Fiuggi. |
